| | Airlines unprepared for challenges | | China has given its three main airlines China Southern, Air China and China Eastern the green light to levy fuel surcharges on domestic routes to ease the impact of international oil price rises. The National Development and Reform Commission, which sets the jet fuel price, has raised it three times this year. The price has increased from 3,400 yuan (US$419) per ton early last year to its current 4,620 yuan (US$569) per ton. The mainland's airlines have recorded a combined 340 million yuan (US$42 million) loss in the first five months of this year due to rising fuel costs, according to the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC). Last week, the industrial regulator announced that from August 1 domestic airlines would be allowed to collect an extra 20 yuan (US$2.46) per passenger travelling less than 800 kilometres and 40 yuan (US$4.93) per passenger on longer flights. It is certainly good news for the big three carriers, which had appealed to the CAAC to let them resume the collection of the fuel surcharge. The fee was revoked in April last year as the aviation authorities encouraged more flexible pricing, meaning airlines could resort to... | |

| | Farecast - Scaling new heights | | Being a frequent traveller, I have a great need for good deals for air tickets and that led me to commercial websites like www.orbitz.com, www.expedia.com and www.travelocity.com. However, there was always this thought that whether this is the best deal or not.
Farecast - the twist from the word 'forecast', is the most sophisticated airfares website that I have explored ever. The website is already on the 'look-out' list for orbitz and travelocity. Farecast has a very sensible algorithm.
It gives you multiple options for chosing fare. However, what stands out is the 'buy-or-wait' feature.
What 'buy-or-wait' means is that for any dates of travel that you choose, the website will give you the best fares available across airlines and then would tell you whether it is a good time to purchase the tickets at that best fare or not. There are mutliple slabs for this decision making - the lowest being 'BUY' i.e. the fare will increase in the next 7 days so it is the best time to buy the tickets and the highest being 'WAIT' i.e. the fare will decrease in the enxt 7 days. It has multiple intermediate levels of confidence that help to determine what are the chances of fares going up or...
| | Cheap air fares that makes flight a possible for everyone... | | Air Asia is in its 5 years and I believe that many people benefits from it, at least I am one of them. Before the introduction of Air Asia, I would never think of having a chance to take a flight because the airfares is really expensive, taking a flight seems like an impossible mission for some of us.
But thanks to Air Asia, after its first year of introduction, I manage to fullfill my flight dreams and I feel grateful for that. I do manage to buy air tickets for my parents that rarely have the chance to take a flight after so many years of their marriage.
Cheap air fares have definitely brought some chances for those that cant afford an expensive flight ticket and it helps more people have the chance to travel around more often which is in their affordable budget.
Anyone else can share their thoughts and experience on cheap air fares? Thanks!:)
| | Internet has CHANGED the lifestyle a lot!!! | | In pre-internet days, I used to go to bank, grocery store, post-office, and many more other places to pay my bills, get some grocery, to buy my train/air tickets etc. Now only thing I do is get onto internet, login to various sites and pay my bills, order groceries, train/air tickets. Pay my utility bills. In a sense I have become a kind of couch potato now. How Internet has changed your LIFE??? | |
